The Federal Land Assistance, Management and Enhancement Act (FLAME Act) passed through the house of representatives yesterday. The FLAME act would provide funds for the U.S. Forest service to deal with the growing threat of forest fires, particularly in the California area.
"There is little reason to hope that fire seasons for the foreseeable future will be any less catastrophic than those of the last decade - the trend has certainly been working toward more destruction," stated Nick J. Rahall (D-WV).
As 48% of the Forest Service's already strained budget is allocated to fighting fires, this act is an important step in combating devestating wildfires. To learn more, visit The Committee on Natural Resources webpage.
