Two Seconds is Too Long Sunday, September 12, 2010Learn about water safety and CPR training at the Two Seconds is Too Long event on Sunday, Sept. 12 from 2-4pm at Tempe Marketplace. ABC's of Water Safety: Through our water safety programs and training courses, the Red Cross is committed to preventing drowning and keeping Arizonans safe. ? Adult Supervision – adults always should supervise children around water, both outside by the pool BUT also inside by the bathtub. Never take your eyes off them for a second. And make sure you don’t get distracted by things like the door bell, phone or guests. ? Barriers – make sure there is a fence at least 5 feet tall surrounding your pool. Also, make sure the gate is self-closing and self-latching. Remove all chairs and other materials – anything a child could use to stand on and open the gate – keep them away from the gate. ? CPR Training – make sure adults are trained in CPR and First Aid. Also, make sure your children are enrolled in swimming lessons so they can learn how to be safe around water while they learn how to swim.
