Make a Promise Today! Each day, our doors open to children who are looking for hope, opportunity, and most importantly, Promise. We promise to mold and shape these young people into becoming whatever it is that they dream they can become. Each year, over 17,000 children in Metro Atlanta call the Boys & Girls Clubs their positive place, giving them the tools that they need to perform well at school, as well as, offer those essential health and physical education programs to keep them performing well in life. In a world that is complex, and sometimes dangerous, it is comforting to know that generations of American kids have found a better life and a brighter future thanks to an empowering, inspiring resource right in their neighborhood. Promises shared, Promises kept. We have a promise to make to our children, and we hope that you as citizens will help. Please consider a gift and Make the Promise to our kids.
Core Program AreasClubs are open each day after school from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. – research has shown that during this time of day, children are most vulnerable to gangs, violence and other risky behaviors. We promise our kids that when they get out of school, our doors will be open to them, our staff will be there to guide them and our clubs will be filled with activity and programs dedicated to helping them positively develop. A trained, caring staff implements proven youth development strategies and creates a stable, supportive and promising environment for children and teens ages six to 18. The Core Programs developed and implemented in our Clubs are based on the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs and interests of the youth served. Three Core Program Areas: Academic Success Healthy Living Good Character & Citizenship
Youth of the YearThursday, November 04, 2010Youth of the Year, a year-round development program, honors Boys & Girls Club members as outstanding citizens and leaders. A panel of staff, community leaders and board members evaluate applicants for leadership qualities and activities through family, community, school and Club involvement. Additional criteria include demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles, essay writing, poise and public speaking. The Youth of the Year program culminates with an annual awards dinner in November where the metro Atlanta Youth of the Year winner is announced and is awarded a $5,000 scholarship. He or she then has the opportunity to compete with other Club members on the state, regional and national level. The 2010 Youth of the Year Awards Dinner will be hosted at the Marriott Marquis on November 4, 2010. We are looking for sponsorship opportunities, and individual ticket purchases can be made. Please find out more about how you can support this great program! For information on sponsorships, contact Catherine Bass at cbass@bgcma.org

National Day for KidsUnlike many other countries, America does not have an official day to celebrate its children. Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta along with the support of other leading youth-serving organizations, is working to change that by establishing a Saturday in September each year as Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids. Created as a day to foster relationships between adults and children, the mission of BGC Day for Kids is to establish a day to celebrate and honor American children through the gift of meaningful time. Research shows that when adults spend meaningful time with kids it helps them develop a positive self-image and a sense of belonging, usefulness and purpose. Now, more than ever, BGC Day for Kids provides adults and kids an opportunity to take a break from their busy lives and celebrate the wonder of life and the fulfillment of spending time together. Boys & Girls Clubs of America hopes to make BGC Day for Kids a permanent part of our national culture. Soon we hope the month of September not only recalls the full swing of the fall and back-to-school season, but also BGC Day for Kids, the day we devote our hearts and our minds to our children as a nation.
