Personal Safety and Community Awareness (PSCA)Provides a comprehensive approach to child abuse prevention through the presentation of workshops designed to decrease children's vulnerability for abuse and exploitation to local students enrolled in preschool through high school, parents, and professionals. In addition, the program facilitates awareness-raising activities throughout the community and provides parenting education to assist in the strengthening and rebuilding of fragile families. â?¢1066 school-based workshops and over 100 community trainings were conducted â?¢29,940 students, 2787 parents and 6,213 professionals participated â?¢99.7% satisfaction rate
The Child Protection Team (CPT)Florida Statute 39.303 mandates the existence of Child Protection Teams to provide assistance and consultation to the Dept. of Children & Families and Law Enforcement in cases of suspected child abuse and neglect by a caregiver. CPT provides a multi-disciplinary approach in the detection of child abuse and neglect. The Team is comprised of the Medical Director, Team Coordinator and Case Coordinators. Program services include: forensic medical evaluations and interviews, case reviews, social histories, referrals and training. These services are also available through the CPT non-caregiver component in cases where abuse is suspected by a stranger, neighbor, friend, juvenile or anyone who is not in a child caretaker role.
Kid Kindness ProgramFor the past 15 years, the Kid Kindness Program has provided therapeutic services to build the growth and emotional health of children primarily 13 years old and younger. The program was developed to respond to children who exhibit sexual behaviors or who harm or threaten to harm other children. We also work with children at risk due to abuse, neglect and traumatic life events. As we correct negative behaviors, we help children grow by resolving life issues of trauma and gaining positive awareness of their strengths to develop successful life patterns. â?¢93 sexually reactive youths participated in treatment to help end the cycle of abuse this year â?¢CPC has expanded the program last year increasing interventions with parents and siblings
Sexual Abuse Treatment ProgramSATP is a therapeutic program for children and families who have reported and documented sexual abuse. The program provides a support system for non-offending parents and children committed to healing the wounds of sexual abuse. All treatment is provided by trained therapists in age appropriate groups and supplemental therapies. Families are referred by the Child Protection Team and by community agencies. Individuals and other professionals may make direct referrals. â?¢371 sexually abused child victims and their non-offending caregivers receive counseling â?¢This year, SATP conducted 2,917 individual, family and group counseling sessions.
Supervised VisitationThis program provides trained volunteer facilitators to supervise and monitor court-ordered contact between parents and children. The supervision may be ordered for many reasons, including problems with divorce, domestic violence, abuse or neglect or simply an unusual period of time in which the child has not seen the parent and needs to become re-accustomed to the contact. â?¢12,000 visitations were supervised between children and non-custodial parents â?¢50 Sarasota County citizens serve as Supervised Visitation Volunteers
