Staten Island students gather to celebrate acheivements“I learned that if you care enough about something, you can make a difference,” explains Justin, a Penny Harvest student leader from PS48 when asked what he learned most from his participation on a Philanthropy Roundtable. On May 6th, Justin joined 250 of his peers from schools across Staten Island at a borough-wide event celebrating the difference each of them have made in their community this year.
Part-time school support internThe Part-Time School Support Intern will work as an active member of the Program Team to implement the Penny Harvest program in NYC elementary and middle schools. The Part-Time School Support Intern will handle program support for a geographic region of approximately 100 schools and support the rest of the Program Team with program implementation. School support activities include: • Market program to recruit schools • Support and consult with program coaches (teachers) • Support stand-up training to program coaches during fall and winter trainings • Provide ongoing support to schools via site visits, phone/fax and ongoing email/internet reminders • Prepare and distribute relevant materials to participating schools • Document quantitative and qualitative outcomes, including maintenance of school and regional records and other observation tools • Staff citywide and local program events, including citywide kick-off, student recognition ceremonies, press conferences, etc.
School support internWe are seeking highly motivated, capable interns who are interested in helping NYC school children. Undergraduate students of all majors encouraged to apply. A greater emphasis will be placed on prior experience working with youth, responsibility and reliability for students pursuing a major other than education.
Research and Public Policy internThe Research and Public Policy Intern will work as an active member of the soon to be created Research and Development Department. This member of the team will be responsible for assisting the Research Associate and the Executive Director in the formal creation of a Research and Policy Department. Common Cents runs the Penny Harvest, a nationwide service-learning program, in over a 1,000 schools. The ability to gather, interpret and analyze data are key skills in order be successful in this position.
