FLASH InternFriday, August 22, 2008 - Thursday, December 31, 2009The FLASH (Family Literacy Acquisition Skills at Home) home visiting program offers in home support for parents of young children including low-income, homeless and first time parents. These programs focus on preparing young children for school success and healthy development and build upon client's strengths to enhance their parenting abilities. Intern Duties: - Assist with general office work; - Maintain and update program materials as needed; - Assist home visitors with follow up calls, research and other duties; and - Complete special projects. Knowledge and Skills Required: - Ability to multitask and perform in an office setting - Use of discretion and sensitive to the needs of diverse populations - Desire to work and learn in a unique way - Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Coordinator for Family Literacy ProgramThe Program Coordinator will provide daily implementation and oversight of the Family Literacy Program in accordance with funding obligations and organization standards in order to provide high quality services. This is a replication program that serves at-risk and homeless families with children ages 18 months to 4 years living in Boston, and works in partnership with the Boston Public Schools and the Massachusetts Family Network Boston provider, Dorchester Cares. The program develops children's capacity for communication and verbal skills and offers skills and strategies to support parents as their child's first teacher through rolemodeling use of books and toys to facilitate language and literacy development. The Coordinator of Family Literacy reports to the Director of Child and Family Services.
Part-time Home Visitor/Literacy CoachThe Family Literacy Home-based literacy program (FLASH) is seeking part-time home visitors/Literacy Coaches to work on a per diem basis with families with children ages 18 months to 3 years living in the Boston area with high concentration of low income families, homeless families, families whose first language is not English. Through role modeling in families’ homes, the home visitor will demonstrate simple, comfortable and fun techniques for increasing verbal interaction; help parents discover their important role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
