The mission of Earthen Vessels is to transform lives by fostering service, community and spirit. We engage at-risk youth and university students in mutually enriching relationships through long-term mentoring, academic support and a life-changing camp experience. Our goal is to create a more just, tolerant and empathetic world. We empower at-risk inner-city children and teens from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds in Boston to build self-esteem, self-confidence, self-respect and personal responsibility within a community that challenges traditional boundaries of sex, race, culture and class. They are encouraged to envisage their life in an open-ended and creative way and to become responsible members of their diverse communities. This mission is accomplished through two complementary programs: an intense experience of community life at our Summer Camp in Vermont, and a school-year Tutoring and Mentoring Program which matches youngsters one-on-one with Harvard students in long-term supportive relationships which are equally enriching for both sides of the equation. In recent years, 80-100% of our 'graduates' have gone on to college.
