Habitat for Humanity is a homeownership program. We sell our homes to families who go through a rigorous screening process, contribute 250-500 hours of sweat-equity to help build their own home, and pay a monthly mortgage payment to Habitat which helps fund more Habitat homes. Our homeowner families also participate in Home Buyer Education classes which help foster increased economic independence and self-reliance. Families who qualify to purchase a Habitat home are currently in need of decent, stable and affordable housing, are willing to help build their home, and meet our financial requirements. "Before Habitat, I didn't know that there was more to life than just living paycheck to paycheck," says Dani, Habitat homeowner since 1993. Habitat for Humanity is about more than building houses. It’s about helping families break the cycle of poverty and have a firm foundation upon which to build better lives.(more)
