Music Director Jonathan McPhee leads this unique orchestra, recognized for its musical quality, innovative programming, and unique business model. Longwood Symphony has received the 2007 MetLife “Excellence in Community Engagement Award” from the League of American Orchestras.
Through its “Healing Art of Music” program, thousands have benefited from LSO concerts each year. LSO’s work with 29 different nonprofits has helped each build capacity and infrastructure.In aggregate, these organizations have raised over $800,000 for causes ranging from care of patients with cancer, diabetes and hemophilia to research for new cures for Lou Gehrig’s disease to supporting care of the homeless and medically underserved.
