Youth Mentoring Day at the State HouseWednesday, January 28, 2009January is National Mentoring Month and Mass Mentoring is gearing up for another successful recruitment season. Mark your calendars to attend our Third Annual Youth Mentoring Day at the State House on Jan. 28. This year's theme is Support Mentoring. Change Lives! Supported by the Massachusetts Service Alliance, the event features keynote speaker Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral and will honor legislators for their continued support of mentoring. Following the recognition program, from noon to 2 p.m., a mentor recruitment fair will be held on the Grand Staircase. More than ten diverse programs will be sharing information about volunteer mentoring opportunities through their agencies. It's someone who promotes and embraces our message and encourages people, through education and enthusiasm, to consider being a mentor. It's someone who wants to create change with a little bit of passion and some good thought.

Director of Western Massachusetts PartnershipsReporting to the CEO, the Director of Western Massachusetts Partnerships (DWMP) primary focus is to lead initiatives to increase the quality and quantity of youth mentoring relationships in the four Western MA counties: Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden and Berkshire. Through maintaining, strengthening, and expanding relationships in the region, he/she will mobilize internal and external resources to best meet the needs of the mentoring community and grow the field in the region. The DWMP is a member of MMP's senior team, serves as a conduit to MMP's delivery of service, and plays a lead role in key strategic relationships within youth development and the public and private sectors in Western MA. The DWMP operates a satellite office of MMP (located in Springfield on the campus of Western New England College) and uses the organization's physical presence in the region to best leverage relationships and local knowledge to implement MMP's strategic goals.

Advocacy and Development AssociateWorking within the framework of MMP's strategic plan, in close collaboration with the CEO and Director of Development, the Advocacy and Development Associate will develop and manage MMP's advocacy efforts, as well as MMP's approaches for driving financial resources to the field of mentoring in MA. In addition, the Advocacy and Development Associate will support the Director of Development in MMP's overall fundraising efforts. Responsibilities will be focused on assisting and supporting the following priorities: 1) Strengthening of MMP's public policy advocacy to increase state funds directed to mentoring programs from the mentoring line item and other funding areas 2) Increasing the knowledge and assisting with the implementation of effective advocacy practices among MMP's program partners and in turn, bolstering local efforts for federal bids 3) Expanding relationships with key public officials 4) Developing a $10 million plan for the field by systematically cultivating institutional funders, potential major donors, etc. 5) Continuing to raise institutional and public resources to cover the cost of capacity building approaches for programs 6) Supporting mentoring programs in MMP's network through garnering match activities for mentors and mentees
