Graphic DesignerMonday, April 26, 2010 - Thursday, June 30, 2011Minis and Friends is searching for a graphic designer willing to do image editing and design. Some areas the graphic designer will work in are the quarterly newsletter, on our website, and on brochures, fliers, and various other press items. All positions at Minis and Friends are unpaid and everyone - from the minis, to the mini-owners to our volunteers are - volunteers. However, working with our organization is an excellent way to make a name for yourself and to expand your portfolio. The graphic designer will be expected to work closely with our the Co-Founders and Fundraising Team. We do welcome students.
Mini Handler / WalkerMonday, April 26, 2010 - Monday, May 09, 2011We need help with Mini Handling/Walking miniature horses primarily on Saturdays and some holidays. Visits usually take place mid-morning to early afternoon for 90 minutes at residential treatment facilities, shelters for neglected and abused kids, MHMR facilities, visiting at Dell Children's (to include home visits) with children with cancer, nursing homes/assisted living and hospice and many more locations. Our goal is to have 2 mini handlers/walkers with every mini that we bring. Please contact us for more information. We Need Your Help to be successful and continue on our mission to provide an Equine Guided Interaction (EGI) to those who need it most. We are 100% volunteer and donation based.
Grant Writer/sMonday, April 26, 2010 - Sunday, July 31, 2011Minis and Friends needs a grant writer/s to research and develop grants, one-pagers to foundations and assist in finding funders/sponsors to keep our visit free to non-profits in the greater Austin metro area, Bastrop and Williamson County. Our budget is under 10K and mini-owners pick up a great deal of the expenses. We are in particular looking for funding for our collaboration project with the Black Stallion Literacy Foundation - to bring this reading program to the children in shelters and residential treatment centers whom we visit on weekends. We are also looking for funding for 1 acre of land in south Austin and have a small indoor arena with office, stalls for minis waiting for the visit, tack room, wash room with hot/cold water, and hay/feed room. Let's bring those we visit to a much needed Field Trip and will encourage longer visit during the heat of the Texas sun or the rainy cold weather in our winter.
Hydroseeding for large backyards/small acreage ranchOur minis that are boarded come home for long weekends before a visit or event. Each mini must be bathed and groomed before we leave to work in the community. Because the minis come home to a large back yard they have eaten down the grass and now it is urgent that we measure off one half of the large yard to fill with hydroseed or buffalo/tifton 85 or bermuda sod as a test for other mini owners in our organization for a small home pasture area. Minis will be allowed to roam in back of large yard and newly grassed area will be fenced off with occassional observed grazing. If the hydroseeding will work - the potential for a new outlet for companies to consider will be a win-win for both. Minis and Friends is a 501c3 non-profit based out of Austin,TX. We are 100% donation and volunteer based - all donations go back directly to the caretaking of the minis. We need your help and attention for this Grass Test.
Gently Used Horse Trailer - in good conditionMinis and Friends needs the donation of a gently used horse trailer (mini or large) to allow us to take all of our South Austin minis or Williamson County minis (7-8) to our larger visits and events - providing a safer mode of transportating our miniature horses into the community for their visiting and event activities with those that need a special unique equine encounter to brighten their day. This donation can be tax deductible. Won't you help the Minis continue their work in the community?
Platform Miniature Horse FeedMinis and Friends currently has 15 miniature horses and donkeys located in Austin, Cedar Creek, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Round Rock who all eat Platform, Triple Crown Lite Miniature Horse feed - a feed specially developed for the miniature horse - to keep them healthy, the right weight and not to much protein which causes various equine disorders. (various kinds - needs to be for mini horses) A donation of 4-6 bags of Miniature Horse Feed per month would keep the minis happy and healthy and ready to work and to play. 'A healthy Mini is a Happy Mini' - if you can help - please email us to receive information on purchasing this feed or donating a gift card or visit our Donate page.
Gift CardsThe minis need your help! A gift card can help with feed, hay, annual vet costs, farrier, tack and dewormer, transportation to visits. It can also help to keep our humans who take us almost every Saturday to visit with people of all ages with special needs or life's circumstances have created a special need on the road. All visits are free of charge to those we visit, but we do accept donations. Gift cards would greatly help to keep us working in the community. Gift Card suggestions would be Visa/MC type cards that can be used at DLS Feed, Triple S Feed, Austin Equine Associates, Petsmart (for our leashes), Tractor Supply, Callahan's, and Gasoline gift cards - Chevron, Wal-Mart, Exxon, Shell, etc..
Leathernecks,Tornados, Garretts KidStrong.. and mini horses Minis and Friends were invited by the Leatherneck Motorcycle Club to help support their 2nd annual Fundraiser at Cindy's Gone Hog Wild restaurant/bar on April 11 for Garretts KidStrong, an organization that raises money to help kids help kids with cancer. Five (5) miniature horses from our south Austin minis (MasterCard, SeanMonet, Buckshot, Stardust and Storybook) visited with cancer survivor children and the adults who had an equally good time - meeting them minis. Minis and Friends will partner with Garretts KidStrong to bring miniature horses to children returning home after being in the hospital to bring smiles and stress relief.
