Oakes Children’s Center is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt agency helping emotionally disturbed and developmentally delayed children develop the independence and self-awareness necessary to live and continue learning in the least restrictive setting possible within their local community. Our primary program is a therapeutic-educational day treatment facility serving 21 of the community’s most severely disturbed children. An additional 50 to 60 children are served through our McKinley School, Dianne Feinstein School, Ulloa School and Peabody School Partnership Program, a cooperative effort between Oakes and the San Francisco Unified School District. We serve another 25 to 35 children and their families in our Outpatient Clinic group sessions. Our purpose is to promote the emotional, psychological and academic development of these children in order to achieve their highest potential and to allow for their eventual return to a public school setting.
