PARENTS Empowered AwardsIt's time to honor parents for their involvement in their child's education. Parents have the enormous responsibility of rearing their children and working to provide for their children. Parents give of their time and resources to volunteer, mentor, and advocate for quality educational programs each day whether in their communities or in their child's school with little credit or recognition. PARENTS Empowered Awards is a new award to honor extraordinary parents making a difference in the lives of their children and making an impact in their child's school. Parents across the state of Illinois deserve to be acknowledged for their commitment to education - school participation, community engagement and school betterment. It has been shown that children do better in school when their parents are actively involved to help ensure their success. School Choice Illinois believes empowered parents are engaged, active, and involved ...Empowered parents make it possible for children to have a chance at lifelong success. Why not take a day to recognize them for their tireless efforts in support of education? Parents can be nominated from February 1 to May 30 by submitting a completed application describing why they should be honored for the PARENTS Empowered Award along with a 5-10 minute video or photos showing \"parents-in-action,\" how they are involved and what difference their involvement has made in the lives of their children, schools and the community. Applications can be found on the reverse side. Parents of public, non-public schools and homeschooling are eligible. Parents will be notified in July 2009. School Choice Illinois will host its first PARENTS Empowered Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 8, 2009 to recognize these amazing parents and offer successful tips and ways for parents to start getting more involved in their child's education. PARENTS--which represents Parents Advocating Rights in Education Now for The State--comprises a group of parents that are concerned and interested in expanding educational options for Illinois children to ensure each child has access to the best education possible regardless of their economical status or geographical location.
