A gift today brings future assetsThere are lots of ways to help St. Petersburg College (SPC) do its good work on behalf of students, teachers and the community through gifting opportunities. Many of these gifting opportunities not only help provide scholarships and programs for students but also provide tax benefits for the donor. Charitable Trusts, annuities, bequests, life insurance and endowments are just a few of the variety of gifting opportunities that provide charitable gifts for scholarships and other educational programs. The St. Petersburg College Foundation Inc. supports the vision and mission of SPC by accepting and managing all gifts to the college, including money, securities, property, bequests, trust or life-income arrangements. There are many charitable options for donors depending upon their desires and their personal financial situation. Education ScholarshipsA teacher affects eternity... - Henry Brooks Adams (1838-1918) American Historian, journalist and novelist We may not remember the specifics they taught us, but most of us remember our favorite teachers, those who loved us, inspired us and touched us. Teachers touch lives They help mold tomorrow’s citizens, parents, mentors, law enforcement officials, politicians, judges, spiritual leaders. That’s their calling – to help others develop, learn and grow. The scope of their influence is incalculable. Baby Boomer generation teachers to retire in massive numbers USA Today says Baby Boomer generation teachers are getting ready to retire in massive numbers. According to a story published last month, more than half of all teachers in the U.S. are 50 and older and will become eligible for retirement in the coming decade. Where will the new teachers come from to replace all those retirees? Some of them will come from St. Petersburg College, which has been working hard to expand its degree offerings for prospective educators. St. Petersburg College prepares teachers to touch lives. The college will produce about 240 Education graduates this year and expects to expand its education-related programs in the next few years to keep up with demand. It has graduated almost 1,000 education students since spring of 2004. Giving and Receiving! There are many opportunities to help St. Petersburg College students and programs through the St. Petersburg College Foundation. In addition, there are opportunities to give as well as receive! A gift annuity may be a great way to receive a fixed income for the balance of your life. A gift annuity is an agreement which would pay you a fixed income for life in exchange for a gift to the Foundation. The donor makes a gift of cash, or an appreciated asset, to the St. Petersburg College Foundation in return for an annuity payment for the donor's lifetime. The payout rate is based on your current age. You also may receive an income tax deduction and a portion of your annual income may be tax-free. You will continue to receive payments for your lifetime. When payments cease, the annuity would be used to support the Foundation's mission through scholarships for deserving students and other academic programs. INVEST IN A STUDENT AND INVEST IN YOUR COMMUNITY’S FUTUREIf you could offer a lifetime gift of an education to a deserving student, would you? There are many reasons to give the gift of education, and there are some unique and surprising reasons to give to St. Petersburg College. • Private Contributions are eligible for Florida’s Phillip Benjamin Program matching funds. • Donors may create their own segregated endowment fund for as little as $5,000. • Segregated funds can be established as a legacy from the donor or in honor or memory of a loved one. • Donations are not used to pay administrative and fundraising expenses. 100% of donations are allocated for the purpose for which they are given. • Tuition at SPC is much more reasonable than universities and private colleges. • Funds support students in Tampa Bay who will, in turn, be giving back to our community. The gift of education is a lifetime gift of knowledge, insights, and opportunity. You can help your community by supporting college scholarships for deserving students and wonderful educational programs through the St. Petersburg College Foundation. Call Director of Planned Giving, Cindy Tully for more information: 727-341-3126, or email Cindy at tully.cindy@spcollege.edu.
