TechMission acts “to support faith-based organizations in using technology to transform vulnerable communities.” Though we are faith-based, we serve all program participants without discrimination. Our founder, Andrew Sears, grew up in the inner-city and co-founded a multi-million dollar research group at MIT in 1996 studying the social implications of the Internet. Out of that research and experience, it became clear that the Internet and technology presented some great opportunities to transform at-risk communities. TechMission was founded in 2000 with the vision of bringing innovation to the faith-based social services sector.
Since its incorporation as a distinct 501(c)(3) in 2002, TechMission has already received four major federal grants. Senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry, Former MA Governor Romney and Mayor Menino have all expressed support of TechMission through letters of recommendation and Site visits, recognizing the success of our work in the community.
