TechMission CorpsTechMission Corps (TMC) provides TechMission Corps (AmeriCorps) Members to partnering K-8 after-school and teen program Sites in Boston, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago and NYC. The focus of our TMC program is to equip at-risk youth academically and to prepare them for college: 2005 Census data indicates that for Black/Hispanic families with incomes below $20,000, only 30% of dependent children 18-24 go on to college. Through our partnership with Sites in 2006-2007, we were able to assist with placing 92% of eligible seniors in college. We aim both to equip teens for academic success and to keep K-8 students from getting behind in school. Our strategy is to support and strengthen existing programs. TMC Members at Sites provide academic enrichment, mentoring, technology activities, preparation to pass state tests, college counseling and/or assistance in applying to college and finding financial aid. Our goal is to serve 1,250 youth and teens in the 2008-2009 school year.
TechMission Online ServicesOver the next 10 years, TechMission's Online Services program aims to use the Internet to deliver over $700 million in resources from the faith-based community to provide social services to under-resourced communities. TechMission currently maintains the largest Web portal and volunteer placement website for the Christian social services market, ChristianVolunteering.org, with over 3,000 opportunities from 1,800 organizations and 2,700 volunteers matched. Our web portal UrbanMinistry.org is a library of over 6,000 articles, workshops and presentations, making it the largest online collection of best practices from faith-based social service organizations. Our national partners on these websites include the Salvation Army, AGRM, World Vision and other faith-based social service agencies, serving over 15 million individuals from low-income communities each year. We also provide brands (ivolunteering.org and urbanresource.net) with faith-free content.
City Vision CollegeCity Vision College is the leading accredited online college for the faith-based social services sector (CityVision.edu). Courses include Nonprofit Management, Accounting, Fundraising, Counseling, and Addiction Studies among others. Formerly administered by AGRM (Association of Gospel Rescue Missions) under the name Rescue College, this online college was transferred to TechMission in January 2008 in order to broaden the college’s target market to include all urban nonprofits (beyond just Rescue Missions) with the goal of reaching 200 student enrollments in 2008.
