Supportive HousingTRH makes available transitional housing unit to each participating family. The family pays approximately 30% of their income to cover housing and utility costs. Their rent is adjusted based on their income every six months. Each mother participates in instructional courses to aid in the development of financial literacy as well as family budgeting. Churches sponsor single-mother families by providing furniture and unit renovations as needed. TRH partners with other organizations to assist in securing permanent housing for participants when their stay at TRH concludes. Homeownership is encouraged for qualified families.
Team MentoringA Restoration House staff support couple lives on each site. Staff support couples’ responsibilities include the encouragement of a healthy community dynamic within the apartment complex. Support couples will also provide social opportunities for the mentee families to interact and build strong relationships. In addition to the support couple, local churches provide a diverse team of 8 to 12 mentors to walk alongside each mentee family. The mentor team provides emotional support throughout the service period and beyond. Having a diverse team of mentors allows for a broader spectrum of support. The support couples and mentors are crucial components contributing to the success of participating families.
Service PlanningThe Restoration House coordinates service planning. Participating families sign a contract outlining the basic limitations and expectations of the program. TRH develops an individualized service agreement with the participant identifying goals and action steps in areas such as employment, finances, life skills, and personal growth. They then meet weekly with their Restoration House Family Advocate. Additionally, TRH partners, on an as-needed basis, with community resources for job training, counseling, life skills, physical fitness, IDAs etc.,.
LUNAFEST Film FestivalThursday, October 21, 2010LUNAFEST 2010 Door open at 5:30 for Silent Auction, Live Music and Happy Hour Films begin at 7 For the last nine years LUNAFEST has been celebrating women film makers, showcasing their films and talents in communities across the United States. For the first time since its inception the national, traveling film festival made its first stop in Knoxville in 2008. LUNAFEST features short films by, for, and about women. LUNA, the makers of a nutritional bar for women, wanted to find a way to support women's issues and give back to the community. In addition to providing national exposure for emerging female film makers, they also support one of the most important causes for women today by donating 15 percent of the proceeds nationally to the Breast Cancer Fund. The remaining 85 percent of the proceeds from LUNAFEST Knoxville go directly to The Restoration House of East Tennessee. Since its inception, LUNAFEST has raised over $750,000 nationally. The first two year's of LUNAFEST Knoxville was extremely successful and we are very excited about this year's event.
